Appreciate your help with my personal research project! Don't worry, I won't be copying this posting but I found several useful ideas with my paper. It really is interesting you are the 2nd result listed for my search term.

Peggy, thanks so much checking in and for clearing that up! Another question: is it possible for researchers to make copies from the reels?

Hey Folks, rest assured. We have analog listening copies of the Lomax materials that pre-date the ACE archive materials (Lomax worked for the LOC from 1932-42). The reel-to-reel tapes are "service copies" made in the 1970s for use in the Reading Room . . . no originals are played for our researchers . . . just wanted to allay your fears.

Caught a link to your article about listening to blues at the Library of Congress and wanted to turn you onto a film I made using Alan Lomax's music.

I made the film back in 1996, it was the first DV feature ever made. http://www.mmo22.com/#203941/time-away

Hey, and Happy New Year,

It looks like the Association for Cultural Equity at Hunter College in NYC has digital copies and the LOC has the originals: http://www.loc.gov/folklife/lomax/. It is kind of frightening, though, that anyone can handle the original recordings, like letting us read one of the Gutenberg Bibles ...

Do you mean to say that this invaluable collection is on the original reels and have not been converted to digital? What are they thinking?
