Lions v. Deer at the National Zoo

Visitors to the National Zoo on Sunday afternoon got a closer look at The Circle of Life than they had perhaps bargained for, when a young deer wandered into the lions’ den. The deer escaped three times by jumping into the moat and swimming away. Visitor Rob Ephraim captured the incident on video. You can hear the visitors cheering the deer as it breaks free from the lion’s grasp and jumps in the water. Finally, according to the Washington Post, zoo personnel chased visitors out and brought the lions inside. The deer then escaped the moat. Sadly, however, the deer was badly injured and had to be euthanized.

At least these zoo-fed lions still possess the killer instinct, unlike some other Lions we know.
